Although garages are mainly used to store motor vehicles, they can serve a number of other purposes as well. All of our Garages are designed to last and we offer a 15 year guarantee; to ensure that they serve your needs for this period of time, you should perform a certain amount of maintenance and upkeep.

Keep the Roof and Gutters Clean

When it comes to maintaining a garage, many individuals think that their job is done after the floor has been swept and the car has been put inside. However, this is not the case. Among the most neglected areas of many garages are their roofs and guttering sections. One of the easiest ways to clean a garage’s roof and gutters is to climb up and use a pressure washer or garden hose with a spray attachment in order to remove dirt and debris. Depending on how many trees you have around your property, this should be done at least twice a year.

Sweep the Floor and Ceiling Regularly

Garages are notorious for becoming dusty and dirty far quicker than most other parts of your home. One of the easiest ways to keep the inside of your garage clean is to ensure that the floor is swept on a weekly basis. Many insects also enjoy making their homes in the corners of garage ceilings (or in the rafters when no ceilings are present.) The easiest way to keep these critters from making themselves at home in the uppermost corners of your garage is to run a broom or feather duster along the rafters and in other crevices. It is usually best to do this before sweeping the garage floor so that everything can be swept outside together.

Have a Place for Everything

Among the most common complaints regarding garages is the fact that many people cannot find what they are looking for in them. This usually becomes the case when the garage is used to store everything except the car. While garages do make ideal storage solutions, it is important to invest in a shelving or storage system so that everything is easy to find when it is needed.  Items that are not used regularly can often be stored up in the rafters or on specially designed wall or ceiling-mounted hooks to keep them out of the way. Keeping your garage neat and tidy will also help prevent pests like mice and rats from building nests among your prized possessions.

A clean and orderly garage is an absolute pleasure to spend time in, which is why it is important to develop a regular cleaning and maintenance routine for it. Keeping it clean will also enable you to see if any structural repairs or maintenance may need to be carried out. Fixing smaller problems as they arise in your garage will help you save a great deal of money on repairs in the long term.
